US secretary of State John Kerry is planning to go to Geneva to attend the talks between Iran and major world powers over Tehran’s nuclear energy program.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has already arrived in Geneva and met Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for European and American Affairs Majid Takht-e Ravanchi told reporters that negotiations may extend into an unscheduled fourth day.

The talks, which started on Wednesday, had initially been scheduled to end on Friday.

Takht-e Ravanchi described the latest meeting between Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and EU foreign policy chief, Catherine Ashton, as “good and positive.”

Iran and the six countries are working to hammer out an interim deal to pave the ground for the resolution of the West’s decade-old standoff with Iran over its nuclear energy program.
