Yemeni security officials have threatened and interrogated a correspondence working for al-Alam News Network in the eastern port city of Aden.

The commander of naval security forces in Aden confiscated al-Alam team’s camera and held reporter Fares al-Jalal in his office for interrogation, Aden al-Ghad Daily reported on Wednesday.

The report added that the Yemeni official did not represent any judicial order for his illegal move.

The Yemeni newspaper described the move as violation of the rights of journalists in the Arab nation.

“We were on the way to take footage and interviews with people on Yemen’s traditions, when naval security forces seized our camera,” al-Jalal told Aden al-Ghad Daily.

“Al-Shafaqa (the officer) has threatened us to be beaten by stick and then he interrogated us in his office.”

Jalal noted that he received a permission from Yemeni officials to produce a report in the region.

The reporter has called on the Yemeni Journalists Union to write a protest letter urging the Interior Ministry to force security forces to respect journalists’ rights in the country.
