On the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, ending holy fasting month of Ramadan, Saudi pro-reform activists complained that people in the oil-rich country lack welfare.
They published a photo, showing an Indian worker's almsgiving to a poor and old Saudi man after saying prayers of the Eid al-Fitr.
Statistics show that about 40 percent of the Saudi people live below poverty line while the country’s oil revenue is estimated to reach $300 billion per annum, according to experts.
“People’s earning is inadequate and they are unable to supply their daily needs including food stuff”, Ali Alyami, director for Democracy and Human Rights Organization of Saudi Kingdom told Al-Alam news channel earlier on Monday.
Official figures show that the annual per capita in the Kingdom slipped to $10,000 US from the previous $20,000 US in 1980 and the inflation rate is skyrocketing, the rights activist said.
Saudi activists have called on Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to increase the incomes of all public employees, pensioners and students, and also stabilize prices of basic goods.
