General Fahd Jassem al-Freij, the deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Army and the Armed Forces and minister of defense, made the remarks on Thursday while saluting the Syrian armed forces on the occation of the Army Day.
"We have been confident from the very beginning in the ability to achieve victory; otherwise Syria would have not held its ground," said al-Fraeij told the Syrian Television.
He added that the Syrian army has carried the pan-Arab responsibility on its shoulder for decades, which did not appeal to the enemies "to whom we say: Our army will continue to teach lessons in patriotism, and no one will be able to break it."
"Syria is not only engaged in a war against terrorism and terrorists, but it is in confrontation with Arab and regional ruling systems and is fighting terrorism on behalf of the entire world," the minister added.
He said that the Israeli regime has tried to weaken Syria through its agents on the ground who soon managed to be vanquished.
"Despite all the support and funds, the enemy has failed and its mercenaries have failed too and their dreams were destroyed thanks to our army's steadfastness," al-Freij stressed.
Meanwhile, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has inspected a unit of the armed forces in Daraya city in Damascus Countryside on the occasion of the Syrian Arab Army's Day, marked on August 1st of every year.
Assad said he was "sure of victory" over foreign backed militants fighting to topple him, in an Army Day message carried by state media on Thursday.
"If we in Syria were not sure of victory, we would not have had the will to resist nor been able to persevere in the face of more than two years of aggression," he said.
