Iran plans to build and launch an artificial island within three years at coasts of the southern port city of Bushehr.

Managing Director of Iranian Navigation and Ports Organization Ataollah Sadr told ISNA news agency that the “Negin Island” is going to be used for storing oil and petrochemical products.

Sadr said the island has an area of 40 hectares and has the capacity to be expanded to 400 hectares.

Start of the project to build the Negin Island goes back to some 40 years ago but it was halted and now it has been planned to complete the project in 2016, Sadr added.

Bushehr lies in a vast plain running along the coastal region of the Persian Gulf in southwestern Iran.

It was the chief seaport of the country and is the administrative center of its province.
