Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani says Iran has held the most democratic election in the world.

“If the enemies of the Islamic Republic of Iran have [the slightest] bit of decency they must accept Iran held the most democratic election in the world and they cannot cast any doubt on it,” Chairman of Iran's Expediency Council Ayatollah said Saturday.

Praising the high voter turnout in the presidential poll, Mr Rafsanjani thanked election officials for their performance in the two simultaneous elections.

He said Iranians showed that they were not influenced by negative propaganda and carried out their obligation because of their deep understanding.

Mr Rafsanjani added that through massive participations in the election, people realized the political epic urged by the leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in the best way possible.

Iran's Interior Ministry says according to the latest tally, out of 27,594,719 votes counted so far in the country's 11th presidential election, Reformist candidate Hassan Rohani has secured 14,020,139.

On Friday, millions of Iranian voters headed for polling stations to cast their ballots and choose the country’s 11th president as well as their representatives in the city and village councils.

Nearly 50.5 million Iranians, including more than 1.6 million first-time voters, were eligible to vote in the June 14 elections.
