At least 60 Shia villagers have been massacred by foreign-backed terrorists in eastern Syria.

The Tuesday killings that occurred in the village of Hatlah in Deir Ezzor Province came as Syrian troops have gained the upper hand against the militant groups across the country.

"Today (Tuesday) rebels attacked the village and took control of it, killing 60 Shia residents," Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the opposition Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, told AFP news agency.

There has been no confirming report from Syrian officials.

Earlier in Damascus, two suicide bombings left at least 14 people dead and 31 wounded, and caused widespread damage in the Marjeh neighborhood.

Syrian army has made considerable gains against foreign-backed terrorists during the past months, which has made many of them either flee or surrender.

However with the support of the United States and its western and regional allies for arming the militants, concerns are still high for Syrian people who have suffered a massive bloodshed for more than two year.
