Historic church of the town dating back to more than 300 years ago is also severely damaged while dome of the main city mosque is also broken down by rocket firing.
According to Al-Alam correspondent, Hussein Morteza, who was present in the scene, last night was the first calm night for the residents of al-Qusayr , who were suffering presence of numerous terrorist groups since last two years.
People, who are coming back to town, are still threatened by bombs and unexploded land mines buried by terrorist groups across the area.
According to Al-Alam reporter, militants used the historic church of the city for arms storage. They also dug tunnels around the church to carry such ammunitions to other parts of the city.
Current caretaker of the church says people came back to the building after militants left the town. “All the doors, sculptures and crosses which belonged to more than 300 years ago and had high historic values were stolen,” the caretaker told al-Alam.
Qusayr had been an important center and supply route for the militants fighting against the Damascus government, especially the terrorist al-Nusra Front.
In the past two months, the Syrian army has moved steadily against the terrorists in key battleground areas, making advances near the border with Lebanon and considerably lowering the threat to Damascus.
