Syrian Army has resumed its large-scale military operation in Beit Sahm and Sidi Miqdad districts in countryside of Damascus, Al-Alam reported.

The Syrian army is proceeding towards al-Jamal square located in the center of this area to end the long-lasting crisis in south eastern neighborhoods of Damascus.

“The clashes between security forces and rebel groups are resuming in this strategic area and may continue for several hours. We expect that army troops could reach to al-Jamal square and fully take the control of area within next hours,” a Syrian military officer told Al-Alam.

The area is a strategic location for militant groups due to its closeness to the Damascus Airport and main supply routes to the capital.

Following Syrian army’s great victories against foreign backed rebel groups in the area on Monday, the militants detonated a car bomb blast in the capital's Jubar neighborhood, killing several civilians and injured some others.

Syrian army is nearly finalizing its mission in Rif Dimashq to clear residential districts from occupying terrorist groups, following its successful operations in the strategic town of al-Qusayr.

Syrian army has also done some operations on Monday in the embattled town of Qusayr to retake the town fully from militants, which have entered its third week. The same operations were also done near the border city of Dabaa.

Daba'a, the site of a disused military airbase that had been seized by foreign-backed rebels, is still partly under insurgents’ control.
