“The main road between Baalbek and Homs has been secured,” our correspondent in Qusayr reported on Tuesday.
The remains of Qatar-linked terrorist groups have been found in the parts of the western border town that had been cleared from foreign-backed militants.
The Syrian troops also have inflicted heavy casualties on the al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra terrorists during the latest operation against the militant groups.
The new developments came the Syrian army said its forces have retaken control of al-Dabaa military airport, a rebel post north of Qusayr, a week into the operation to recapture the town near the Lebanese border.
Heavy fighting continues in al-Qusayr in the Homs Province, one of the main bastions for several terrorist groups fighting against the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
Many parts of the town have already been cleared of militants and clashes in the past days have concentrated around the northern parts of the town as well as the neighboring al-Hamidiyeh district.
