Iran's presidential candidate Saeed Jalili says he will pursue a policy of resistance against the West if elected.

Jalili has held his first campaign rally in Tehran. He is among eight candidates running for president in the June race.

He said his foreign policy priority will be expanding Islam’s influence in the world and countering the “arrogance”.

The candidate said he will try to revive the revolutionary policies of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Jalili went on to recall the policy statements of the founder of the revolution, the late Imam Khomeini.

“We are seeking to dry up the roots of the Zionist regime, the capitalist and communist systems. Instead, we promote the Islamic system," Jalili said.

"This discourse rejects domination. This is the discourse of the Islamic Revolution."
Jalili is also Iran’s top negotiator in talks with the West. He said compromise brings misery and devastation.
