Speaking to Al-Alam on Friday, Khalaf al-Meftah warned about certain plots aimed at engaging other regional countries in the war in Syria, saying that it was a strategic goal for U.S. and the Zionist regime of Israel.

Syrian government officials have repeatedly said that the more than two-year unrest in their country was being orchestrated by foreign countries, especially US, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

The United States and its allies have been supporting the opposition in Syria which turned to be a cover for terrorists and several armed rebels -- some affiliated with al-Qaeda -- and have been supplying them with military and financial support.

Al-Meftah said Syrian army has been successful in implementing its strategies against the terrorists and it has also been able to limit terrorists’ activities in certain parts of the country.

He referred to Syrian president Bashar Assad’s latest comments that strategic danger was curbed in Syria, and added that this meant the army was able to take things in hand and balance its operations.

The Syrian official said taking care of civilian lives has always been a priority throughout the operations and army soldiers try not to endanger civilian lives in each and every operation.

On the media propaganda against Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement, having a role in Syrian crisis, al-Meftah said, “reports showed that there are more than 40 thousands armed rebels fighting against the government in Syria but there are no evidence of Hezbollah taking action in the country”.
