Referring to Egypt’s foreign policy during Mubarak regime, Heikal said the U.S., Israeli regime, and certain Arab countries prohibited Mubarak from building ties with Iran during his tenure.
“This is while that the Shah of Iran did not provide any oil aid to Egypt during the 1973 war, but Israeli regime fought three wars in 1956, 1967, and 1973 merely with Iranian oil aids”, Heikal said.
Comparing the foreign policy of Mubarak regime with that of the Muslim Brotherhood (Ikhwan), he referred to the Muslim Brotherhood’s ruling type and stressed that “incidents are big, but men are small”, making a reference to the inability of the Muslim Brotherhood authorities in managing the affairs of the country,” Al-Alam News Channel quoted him as saying in an interview with the Egyptian Channel C.B.C.
Heilkal went on to remind that Iran did not support Egypt in the 1973 war while it lavishly provided Israel with its oil, asserting “the Arab world considered Israel as dangerous and conflicts with Israel had a regional dimension in which world powers should have been meddling.”
The Egyptian writer noted that Qatar’s financial aid to Egypt does not make him concerned because they lack political validity. He then asked “What does Qatar require from Egypt? What can we pay in return for these aids?,” concluding that all these are considered an insult to Egypt and its position.
Regarding the future of Egypt and the Muslim Brotherhood rule, he said “there is a public concern about the Muslim Brotherhood and I predict that it will fail in running the state affairs as it lacks enough experience, for affairs are big and men are small!”
