Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says his country’s cooperation with African nations is aimed at promoting world peace and security.

Speaking to reporters at the end of his visit to Benin on the first part of his tour to three African countries, Ahmadinejad said, “Iran’s cooperation with African countries benefits international peace and security and all humanity and it is not against anyone”.

He said Iranians would always support African countries’ move toward development and progress and Tehran was ready to share its experiences with all friendly states.

Benin’s President Thomas Yayi Boni described his talks with Ahmadinejad as “positive” and said the two countries reached agreements in favor of their nations. He expressed hope for stronger bilateral cooperation, particularly in energy fields.

Ahmadinejad left Tehran for a three-day tour of Africa on Sunday, heading a high-ranking delegation.

The Iranian president said the visit is made upon an invitation by the presidents of Benin, Niger, and Ghana.
