Obama, whose government is accused of supporting the deadly armed insurgency in Syria, ordered donation of the money to terrorists claiming that he is concerned by the “worsening humanitarian crisis” in the country.
This is while that the U.S. government has been behind a flow of lethal weapons into Syria through Jordan and Turkey by the help of countries such as Qatar and Saudi Arabia working as middlemen to smuggle arms into Syria.
Syria is dealing with a US-backed extensive insurgency since 2011 that has left thousands of people including hundreds of members of the security forces dead. Well-armed terrorist groups in Syria are recruiting mercenaries from across the Middle East and Europe to fight against the legitimate government of the country which is supported by a vast majority of people.
The US is planning to help the opposing groups to take down the government in Syria via armed battles.
Syrian president Bashar al Assad has long accused the US, Israeli regime and their allies of meddling in internal affairs of his country and supporting terrorists to tear the country.
US National Security Council spokeswoman Caitlin Hayden said the funding was in addition to $117 million in non-lethal aid already being provided to the Syrian armed rebels to help them organize their operations inside the country.
