The Islamic Republic of Iran appreciates the friendly and brotherly government of Kazakhstan for its warm hospitality and providing appropriate host to this meeting.

The Islamic Republic of Iran also has the best wishes for the Kazakh people and offers special thanks to H.E. President Nazarbayev for having special attention and consideration to these talks.

Iran presented a comprehensive plan for talks in Moscow six month ago. The plan included 5 pillars for cooperation, which determined principals and objective of the talks.

They were supposed to consider and review the plan and provide response to Iran. In response, the other side, tabled some proposals yesterday, which observed some points of the proposals tabled by the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Some of the points raised in their response were more realistic compared to what they said in the past, and they tried to bring proximity to Iran’s viewpoints and their own, which we believe they are positive. However, there is a long way to reach to the optimum point.

The G5+1 offered that tangible steps be taken during the next 6 months in order to build confidence. They tabled some suggestion to this end.

The Islam Republic of Iran stressed that the steps should be balanced and simultaneous and that the suggestions should not deprive I.R. of Iran of its inalienable rights.

Therefore, it was agreed that the expert-level meeting be held in Istanbul, Turkey on March 18th, and it would be followed by a new round of Iran-G5+1 meeting in Almaty on April 5th and 6th.

The Islamic Republic of Iran considers these talks as a positive step, which could be completed with a constructive approach and by taking mutual steps.
