The incident took place in al-Salehiya district of the capital on Thursday when terrorists opened fire on Samer al-A’araj and killed him.
Before the assassination attack, a powerful car bomb exploded near the Baath party headquarters and a school in al-Mazraa district of Damascus and killed 53 people and wounded 237 more.
There have been several civilians among the casualties of the bombing that was blamed on foreign-backed terrorists fighting government forces.
The crisis in Syria began nearly two years ago. Many people, including large numbers of Syrian security forces, have been killed in the turmoil.
A recent UN report revealed that militants from nearly 30 countries have infiltrated into Syria to fight against the Syrian government.
