Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei stated on Saturday that the Islamic Republic of Iran does not need nuclear weapons, calling for all nukes to be annihilated all over the world.
“We believe nuclear arms must be eliminated and we don't want to build nuclear arms, but if we did not believe this and decided to have nuclear arms, no power could stand in our way”, Ayatollah Khamenei stated.
The leader was responding to the U.S.-led allegations against Iran, which accuse the Islamic Republic of commissioning a clandestine non-civilian nuclear program.
This is while that the Supreme Leader issued a fatwa (decree) last year, stating that the production and use of weapons of mass destruction was un-Islamic and therefore forbidden.
Moreover, the Iranian government declared the document was binding and has even offered to register it officially with the UN.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has time and again stressed that its nuclear activities are for peaceful purposes.
Yet, the so-called 5+1 group of countries – known as G5+1 – including the United States, Russia, China, France, Britain plus Germany are due to meet Iran for talks in Kazakhstan on Feb. 26 to discuss the dispute over the Islamic Republic’s peaceful nuclear energy program.
Ayatollah Khamenei further referred to the Iranian nation’s massive turnout in the rallies held across the country to mark the 34th anniversary of the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution and said economic problems did not lead to a separation between the people and the Islamic establishment.
