(AMN) -- Isis militants partaking in the offensive used the cover of a sandstorm in the Deir Ezzor region to aid the surprise and effectiveness of their assault, something which they have done many times before.
However, pro-government forces were vigilant and having been prepared for the possibility of such an attack, were quick to react to it as their positions started getting stormed by ISIS fighters.
Together, the Syrian Arab Army, Hezbollah and Liwa al-Fatamiyoon repelled the Isis offensive on the T-2 complex.
According to military-affiliated sources, pro-government forces managed to destroy two ISIS armored vehicles and kill at least 10 terrorists over the course of the short-lived offensive.
All-in-all, pro-government forces suffered 10 men killed and wounded.
ISIS can be expect to launch more cross-desert offensives against pro-government forces in southern Deir Ezzor province over the weeks to come as the Syrian Arab Army moves towards the strategic Syrian-Iraqi border town of Abu Kamal.
