(MNA) -- Iran had closed its border gates with northern Iraq in response to an independence referendum held in Iraq’s Kurdish region last month.
Meanwhile, the Iranian consulate in Erbil announced that Bashmagh border gate will resume normal activities today at the request of a number of residents in Sulaymaniyah and Halabja provinces in northern Iraq.
Accordingly, the gate connecting Marivan city to the Iraqi Kurdistan will welcome passengers as well as conducting all customs affairs as of today.
“No decision has been made so far on reopening other border gates of Iran with northern Iraq,” reads the statement issued by Iran’s consulate in Erbil.
