Turkey’s Erdoğan to visit Iran on Oct. 4

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is slated for an official visit to Tehran on October 4 to hold talks on bilateral and regional issues with Iranian senior officials, according to Turkish media.

(MNA) -- In an interview with a Turkish news channel on Friday, President Erdoğan announced his upcoming visit to Tehran to be scheduled for October 4, adding “we have close relations with Iran, and during the trip, I will discuss issues on terrorism, the presence of terrorists in Qandil mountains, and other important issues regarding bilateral and regional developments.”

Stressing that the two sides will continue the exchange of visits, President Erdogan announced that Iran-Turkey’s joint economic commission’s meeting will be held during his visit to Tehran.

“Prior to my trip, Chief of the General Staff Hulusi Akar will travel to Tehran to hold talks with Iranian officials,” he said.

The most recent meeting between presidents of Iran and Turkey was on the sidelines of the OIC Summit in Kazakhstan on 10 September, during which the two sides called for further military and security cooperation and discussed Erdogan’s upcoming visit to Tehran.

On August 16, Iran’s Chief of General Staff Major General Mohammad Bagheri held talks with President Erdogan in Ankara on issues related to region such as the decision of Iraqi Kurdistan Region to hold an independence referendum, fighting terrorism as well as cooperation between the two countries regarding border security.
