French President Francois Hollande arrived in Irbil on Monday for talks with Masoud Barzani, the President of Iraqi Kurdistan region. He also met French troops and local officials in the autonomous northern Kurdish region after visiting Baghdad.

Hollande, on a one-day visit to Iraq, met earlier with Prime Minister Haider Al Abadi and President Fuad Masum in Baghdad.

Iraqi troops are fighting the Islamic State terror group (ISIS), in an operation to retake the northern city of Mosul and France Know himself part of what called US-Led Anti ISIS Coalition.

Iraqi state TV said Hollande would be discussing "increasing support to Iraq and the latest developments in the fight against Daesh,".

"France is part of the US-led international coalition formed in late 2014 to fight ISIS after the extremist group seized large areas in Iraq and neighboring Syria and declared an "Islamic caliphate."
