Iraqi Golden Division, a unit of the Iraqi Special Operations Forces, the offensive on Zahra marked just another day of intense fighting against the ISIS terrorists.
"We're now in Zahra district and we're going to the frontline which separates us from the ISIS group fighters," the unit’s Captain Ghaith says as he drove a vehicle through the streets of eastern Mosul.
The Golden Division has led nearly every major battle against the ISIS group. Since the Golden Division entered Zahra, it has undertaken a systematic clearing of militants from the district.
Meanwhile the Iraqi Army, alongside their popular committees, made several important advances today inside Mosul, liberating two key districts from ISIS.
According to the Iraqi Army's Chief of Staff, their forces managed to liberate the districts of Al Qadsiyah Al Thaniyya and Arpashay after a fierce battle with the Islamic State terrorists in Mosul's eastern sector.
Following the liberation of these districts, the Iraq Armed Forces turned their attention westward, where they were seen shelling the nearby Al Zubhour area of eastern Mosul.
The Iraqi Armed Forces have made significant progress inside of Mosul recently, forcing several Islamic State units to retreat towards the city-center in order to fortify their defenses.
Iraqi forces have recaptured Nimrud, the site of an ancient Assyrian city, which was considerably damaged by ISIS.
