Russian President Vladimir Putin visited a nature reserve for rare wild horses in Orenburg region on Monday.

The reserve in the southern Ural Mountains houses Przewalski's horses, which are in danger of extinction in Russia.

The Russian president gave the horses feed and was shown encouraging the horses to leave their fenced enclosure to be released into grasslands.

“What a big difference there is between domestic horses and wild horses, I wasn't expecting it,” Vladimir Putin said

The reserve breeds and cares for the horses with the aim of preparing them for reintroduction into the wild.
