The Irish Defence Forces said one of the vessels contained 106 migrants, the other 164. Several people needed urgent medical attention. Those rescued received food, water and medical treatment onboard the James Joyce, before being transferred to an Italian naval ship which was due to transfer them to a designated Port of Safety.
