On Friday morning in the Deir Ezzor Governorate, the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) launched another offensive to capture the Deir Ezzor Military Airport and the nearby villages of Al-Jafra and Al-Muri’iyah from the Syrian Arab Army’s 137th Artillery Brigade of the 17th Reserve Division.
However, the terrorist group’s offensive would be cut short by the stiff defenses of the Syrian Arab Army that proved impregnable on Friday.
According to a military source at the Deir Ezzor Airport, the Syrian Arab Army repelled all attacks conducted by ISIS on Friday, including their largest assault on the Deir Ezzor Military Airport.
The source added that over 20 ISIS fighters were estimated to have been killed by the Syrian Armed Forces during the intense fighting at the Deir Ezzor Military Airport.
In addition to the fighting at the Deir Ezzor Airport, ISIS and the Syrian Armed Forces clashed at Tal Rawad inside the Al-Baghayliyah District; Abna24 reported.
