The ISIS launched another assault to capture the Dumayr Military Airport in the Eastern Damascus countryside on Thursday, targeting several checkpoints around the strategic military installation located inside Jabal Qalamoun area.
The large-scale assault by the Takfiri terrorist group at the Dumayr Military Airport was repelled by the Syrian soldiers and the National Defense Force (NDF) after hours of fierce battle.
According to a Syrian source, tens of Takfiri terrorists were killed during the clashes.
In a relevant development earlier this month, the Syrian army pounded and destroyed the military positions of Al-Nusra Front terrorist group in the town of Khan al-Sheikh in the Western part of Damascus, inflicting heavy losses on them.
The Al-Nusra Front's military positions and gathering centers were razed down in Khan al-Sheikh last Friday.
Scores of militants were killed and wounded in the Syrian army's attacks on their positions.
Also late last month, the Syrian air force pounded the al-Nusra militants' positions in Eastern Ghouta, Damascus province, inflicting a number of casualties on the terrorists.
"The Syrian fighter jets pounded the military positions and gathering centers of the al-Nusra terrorists in al-Marj region in Eastern Ghouta, which resulted in the destruction of the terrorists' military grid," a battlefield source said.
The Syrian air force has intensified its air raids on militants' strongholds across Ghouta region inflicting growing loss and damage on the terrorists, FNA reported.
