The driver of a white pickup was being pursued across the Valley of the Sun area on Thursday afternoon for an alleged hit and run, and aerial video captured him attempting to escape authorities by carjacking a motorcycle.
At one point the suspect, since identified by CBS5 as 31-year-old Joshua Monigold, arrived at a stoplight in the city of Mesa, rushed out of his car towards a bike in front of him and threw its rider.
Monigold and motorcyclist slugged at each other before Monigold jumped back to his truck when police arrived and drove off as officers pointed what appeared to be guns at him.
It was not immediately clear if shots were fired at the scene.
The chase then stretched onto the interstate, where Monigold was bumped by police, crossed over the median and flipped his vehicle, throwing himself out of the truck in the process.

A police spokesman on the scene said that Monigold survived and was combative with police before being taken to a local hospital.
Public records for Monigold show that he has previously served prison time for a 2006 dangerous drug violation, and was also found guilty of promoting prison contraband.
He had been listed as “Most Wanted” for leaving the scene of an accident near Tuscon last week, New York Daily News reported.
