Syrian army forces have established control over several areas in the northeastern countryside of Latakia.

The Syrian army has managed to recapture a number of strategic areas from the Takfiri Daesh group in the province of Latakia.

A military source said that the Syrian forces had earlier advanced towards the hills in Latakia’s northern countryside.

Syrian army jets also targeted terrorists’ hideouts in Latakia’s northern countryside, inflicting heavy losses on the foreign-backed terrorists.

The Syrian government forces made similar gains in other parts of the country, including the provinces of Aleppo, Hama, Homs, Dara’a and Suwayda.

The government forces also destroyed six vehicles belonging to Takfiri terrorists and killed nearly 50 of them in an operation in the northwestern province of Idlib.

A number of cars equipped with machine guns and arms depots were also destroyed during the army’s airstrikes.

Terror attacks in Damascus

In a separate development on Thursday, five civilians were killed and dozens injured in terror attacks that hit residential neighborhoods in and around the Syrian capital, Damascus.

Two of the victims were killed and over 30 others injured in Damascus in mortar and rocket attacks launched from Eastern Ghouta, the official SANA news agency reported.

Police sources also said that terrorists targeted residential neighborhoods in Jaramana near Damascus, killing three civilians and wounding nine others.

Syrian forces have recently been making rapid advances against the Takfiris, who are committing heinous crimes against all ethnic and religious groups, in several parts of the crisis-hit country.

The advances of the Syrian government forces against Daesh and other terrorist groups have been expedited by the air cover provided by Russia, which began on September 30 at the request of the Damascus government.

The foreign-backed militancy in Syria, which flared in March 2011, has left over 250,000 people dead; Press TV reported.
