Yemeni and popular forces of Ansarullah fighters have carried out several rocket attacks on Saudi military bases in the country’s southwestern border region of Jizan.
Yemen’s al-Masirah TV reported on Wednesday that at least four Saudi military sites, including al-Radeef base, were pounded by Yemeni artillery strikes. The retaliatory bombardment caused heavy material damage to the bases.
The Yemeni forces also took control of al-Hathira military camp in the area and destroyed a number of Saudi military equipment in the process.
Earlier in the day, Saudi forces heavily shelled several regions in Yemen’s northwestern province of Sa'ada, leaving three people dead.
Saudi fighter jets also bombarded a residential neighborhood in the Sharas district of the western province of Hajjah. At least eight people lost their lives in the attack and a number of others sustained injuries.
On Tuesday, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon voiced deep concern over the rising number of civilian casualties in Yemen, calling for an end to the conflict.
He called on all the parties of the Yemeni crisis “to take all feasible precautions to avoid loss of civilian life and damage to civilian objects.”
Saudi Arabia started its military aggression against the impoverished Yemen on March 26 – without a United Nations mandate – in a bid to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restore power to former Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, who is a staunch ally of Riyadh.
According to a report released on September 19 by the Yemen’s Civil Coalition, over 6,000 Yemenis have so far lost their lives in the Saudi airstrikes, and a total of nearly 14,000 people have been injured; Press TV reported.
