Addressing the opening ceremony of the 6th General Assembly of World Assembly of Ahl ul-Bait here on Saturday, he said the world today is thirsty for knowing Islam as a religion of peace and resistance.
He said that today the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran is stressing that it gains power from logic and rationality and from its ability to engage in negotiations and initiating a new kind of dialogue.
He said Iran never sees power in exercising force and using arms but in advocating efforts to hoist the flag of peace.
President Rouhani said Iran will certainly use its power and capabilities to safeguard peace, stability and security in the region.
The 6th general assembly of World Assembly of Ahl ul-Bait kicked off in Tehran on Saturday morning.
President Hassan Rouhani inaugurated the international gathering with his speech.
700 foreign guests from 130 world countries together with a number of Iranian political and cultural figures are participating in the four-day event.
The Hizbullah undersecretary Sheikh Naim Qassem, Iraqi Vice President Nouri al-Maliki, Secretary General of Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq Ammar al-Hakim, senior advisor to the Supreme Leader for international affairs Ali Akbar Velayati and a number of ranking officials are among the guests.
The meeting is working under the motto of “solidarity and convergence for advancement of objectives of Islam’.
World Assembly of Ahl ul-Bait is a non-profit and non-state organization which was established in 1989 and meets every four years with its members from across the world participating in the general assembly.
The present meeting is to award outstanding articles and the participants are to meet with the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
