Iraqi military forces, and Shiite militia fighting alongside them, continued their advance on ISIS group positions at the Beiji oil refinery on Thursday.
Thick smoke could be seen billowing from Iraq's largest oil refinery, believed to have been set on fire by ISIS militants. Iraqi security forces have poured resources and manpower into securing the refinery, where ISIS have staged periodic attacks.
Beiji is 145 kilometers (90 miles) south of Mosul and 250 kilometers (155) miles north of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad.
