In a nationally televised address on Sunday, Maliki further emphasized that Masoum’s decision was motivated by political objectives and in violation of the nation’s constitution and that he is determined to file a formal complaint against him.
"I will submit today an official complaint to the federal court against the president of the Republic for committing a clear constitutional violation for the sake of political calculations," Maliki said.
Maliki’s bloc, the State of Law Coalition, won the majority of seats in April’s parliamentary elections.
He also emphasized that he would not give in to political pressure to drop his bid for a third term in office.
The development comes as more than a million people across Iraq have been displaced so far this year, according to estimates by the United Nations.
The ISIL and its affiliate terrorist elements are widely blamed for numerous sacrilegious acts across Iraq. The Takfiri terrorist groups are reportedly linked to Saudi intelligence elements and it is further believed that they are also being indirectly supported by the Israeli regime.
Meanwhile, the ISIL terrorists say they will continue efforts to launch an offensive on the Iraqi capital of Baghdad.
Iraqi armed forces have been engaged in heavy fighting with the Takfiri insurgents on different fronts and have so far been able to push them back in several areas.
Maliki has vowed that the country’s security forces would confront the ISIL terror elements. He has repeatedly said the US and its regional allies – especially Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkey -- are supporting the armed insurgency across Iraq.
