Out of the 1,819,984 votes counted, Mr Rouhani, who is president of the expediency council’s center for strategic research, had nearly 834,859 votes.
Tehran Mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf is the runner up so far with 320,562 votes, and then stands Supreme National Security Council Secretary Saeid Jalili with 257,822 votes.
214,368 votes were counted for Expediency Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei and former Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Velayati had 106,144 votes in the initial results.
The last person in the list is the former telecommunications minister Mohammad Gharazi with 25,324 votes.
