Iran naval forces are to be equipped with new advanced cruise missiles with the range of over 300 kilometers, head of the Iranian aviation industries organization says.

General Mehdi Farahi said on Sunday that the defense ministry is going to equip the naval forces with more advanced medium-range missiles and rockets in order to boost naval defense capacities.

He said new coast-to-sea and surface-to-surface missiles have higher range and accuracy comparing to the short-range missiles already given to the naval forces and provide the commanders with different tactical options.

Over the past years, Iran has made important breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems.

On April, Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said Iran planned to unveil indigenous ballistic and cruise missiles as well as other new military achievements by the next five months.
