Lebanon urged the 15-member council to compel Israel to halt its violations of Lebanon's sovereignty by air, sea and land, and carry out all its obligations in accordance with resolution 1701, Lebanon wrote to the Security Council on Monday.

Israel’s incursions of Lebanese sovereignty have a long history with the regime’s planes and drones frequently breaching Lebanese airspace.

"The Israeli Air Force continues to violate Lebanese airspace and in the previous days intensified its circuits above Lebanon. This constitutes a disgraceful violation of (Lebanon's) sovereignty," the letter said.

Lebanese army has been put on the very highest state of alert after Israeli regime’s airstrike on Syrian soil and deployed its forces at the southern borders of the country near the occupied lands of Palestine.

Israel regime launched a violent attack on a research center near Syrian capital of Damascus on Friday and Sunday which was strongly condemned by regional leaders.

The regime, along with the United States, has been supporting a deadly two-year insurgency in Syria which has left many people dead.

Israel’s attacks come amid rising international concerns of the unrest in Syria turning to be a humanitarian crisis.

UN High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres warned the Security Council that almost half Syria’s 20.8 million population could be in need of humanitarian help in less than a year, if the fighting is not over.
