Iran’s OPEC Governor Mohammad Ali Khatibi says Saudi Arabia has had the largest cooperation with the Western countries who imposed US-unilateral sanctions against Iran oil sector.

In an interview with Al-Alalm news channel on Sunday night, Khatibi said that attempts by certain OPEC members, particularly Saudi Arabia, to promote sanctions against Iran could create volatility in the global markets and probably reduce the security of crude supplies all over the world in near future.

He said the security of oil supplies are depended on a few numbers of countries who contain the greatest reserves of oil and gas.

“The statesmen are occasionally entering the economic fields and make a chaos in this regard”, Khatibi said.

He said since Iran is among the five main members of OPEC who established this organization, nobody is allowed to deny the key role that Iran plays in international oil markets.

Referring to current sanctions against Iran’s oil sector, Khatibi said while some members of OPEC are trying to cooperate with the West to fulfill any probable gap, we see that some Iranian customers are allowed to purchase Iran’s oil every six months.

“This initiative confirms that the West could not ignore Iran’s oil share totally”, he added.

Commenting on OPEC members’ move to increase their oil output to help the West promote severe sanctions against Iran, Khatibi also dismissed such initiatives saying that the member states of the intergovernmental organization should demonstrate commitment to the collectively-made decisions of the body to preserve their common interests.
