The activists called for immediate releasing of Sheikh Namer and all jailed political prisoners and Saudi activists. Sheikh Namer was attacked, injured and arrested by Saudi security forces en route to his house in Qatif on July 8, 2012, according to a report by Al-Alam News Channel.
The cleric had called for the release of all those detained in protests against the Saudi regime, and all the prisoners of conscience. His arrest sparked several protests in Saudi Arabia with thousands of people pouring to the streets and condemning the act.
The Bahraini activists stressed that the policy of detention is doomed to failure as far as Saudi people’s rightful demands are concerned.
They also called for immediate withdrawal of Saudi occupying troops from Bahrain and asked for trial of Saudi military authorities for their crimes against Bahraini civilians.
Sheikh Namer as one of the most popular and main Saudi opposition figures, has long been criticizing the Saudi regime for its biased policies vis-à-vis minorities, Shia population in particular, and adopting discriminatory approach towards its own citizens.
