Ten-month-old Dawson Shull, from North Carolina, USA, was born in May 2016 with congenital Cytomegalovirus - meaning he has lived his life so far in silence.
He had severe loss in his right ear and profound loss in his left but that all changed this year when he was fitted with a life-changing hearing device.
Dawson has had Cochlear implants which replace the function of a damaged inner ear and now allow him to hear properly for the first time.
In the touching video, Dawson smiles as he peacefully sits watching Minnie Mouse and listening to the voices of the characters which he has never heard before.
But it all gets too much for him when he hears mother Jessica calling his name for the first time, causing the little one to burst into tears.
Mrs Shull said he was slightly upset for the first couple of minutes as he adjusted, but has loving it since.
She said: 'He now plays on his xylophone and piano for hours intrigued by the sound.
'This is such a huge step-forward for Dawson.

'After the initial switch on he cried for about five minutes, but it hasn't bothered him since then.
Dawson was born with Cytomegalovirus, an infection contracted in the prenatal period, which caused loss of hearing in both of his ears, Daily Mail reported.
