"The Syrian army and its allies' operations in Eastern and Northeastern Homs will be longer than expected given the dispersion of the ISIL terrorists in the region," Zahir Taraf told FNA on Tuesday.
"Hence, the Iraqi mobilization (popular) forces are also expected to be present in the operations," he added.
Syrian Army troops have been heavily attacking the ISIL's positions and movements in Eastern Homs province in the past few weeks, inflicting major losses on the militants.
Late last week, the army troops opened heavy fire at ISIL terrorist’s positions and vehicles in Toloul al-Swana, about 90 km East of Homs city, killing and injuring a number of its members.
Fatah al-Sham Front (the al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorist group previously known as the al-Nusra Front) terrorists’ positions in the villages of al-Farhanyeh and Ein Hussein al-Janoubi in Northern Homs also came under attack by army men.
A number of terrorists were killed and their vehicles were destroyed in the attacks.
Meantime, the Syrian Air Force pounded terrorists' bases in Kafr Laha, Taldou, Um Sharshouh and Talibeh in Northern Homs.
In a retaliatory move against terrorists' attacks on the neighborhoods of al-Arman, al-Abasiyeh and al-Mowaselat square in Homs city, the Syrian army targeted terrorists' bases in al-Wa'er neighborhood, killing and wounding several militants.
Battlefield sources announced on Thursday that the Syrian army and ISIL terrorists engaged in tough battle near the strategic oilfields in Homs province.
The Syrian government troops and the ISIL terrorists resumed fierce clashes near Maher and Sha'er oilfields in the Eastern part of Homs province.
Meantime, the Syrian fighter jets pounded ISIL's gathering centers in the town of al-Sukhnah and its surrounding areas in Eastern Homs.
