The Iranian legislature on Tuesday gave votes of confidence to President Hassan Rouhani's three nominees for the posts of Education, Islamic Guidance and Culture, and Sports and Youth Affairs ministers.

Fakhreddin Danesh Ashtiyani, Seyed Reza Salehi Amiri and Massoud Soltanifar managed to win 157, 180 and 193 votes cast in their favor respectively.

The Iranian parliamentarians also gave 111, 89 and 72 No votes to Danesh Ashtiyani, Salehi Amiri and Soltanifar with 6, 6 and 9 abstentions, respectively.

A sum of 275 legislators were present in today's session of the parliament.

During the Tuesday parliament session, President Rouhani was given time to defend the three nominees for the ministerial posts.

A number of cabinet ministers also attended the parliament session.

Former Ministers of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ali Jannati, Sports and Youth Minister Mahmoud Goodarzi and Education Minister Ali-Asqar Fani resigned from their posts late last month.

All the three ministers accompanied President Rouhani to power when he rose to office in a fragile victory in 2013, and their resignations came as Rouhani will be in office only for less than 10 months.

Iranians will go to the polls next May to elect the country's next president.
