NATO’s steps to build up its military capacity and to assign global functions to the alliance pose a threat to Russian security, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev told Sputnik.
"We still regard the strengthening of NATO’s military might and assigning this organization global functions, locating the bloc states’ military infrastructure closer to Russian borders, deploying new types of armaments, creating a global missile defense system as threats to our country’s security," Patrushev said.
Russia continues working within the Russia-NATO Council framework to coordinate measures aimed at preventing air and sea confrontations, Patrushev added.
"Under the present circumstances, Russia continues using the Russia-NATO Council dialogue platform, working on bilateral agreements on prevention of air and sea incidents," Patrushev said, Sputnik reported.
