The Syrian Army repulsed an ISIS offensive on Deir Ezzor city’s military airport as the country’s warplanes targeted gatherings of the terrorist group near Jabal al-Tharda, Southeast of the province, a military source said on Wednesday.
"Scores of ISIS terrorists were killed in the aerial attacks, which also led to the destruction of several technical vehicles in the Southeastern region of Deir Ezzor province," the source said.
The source added that the Syrian Army forces inflicted more casualties on the terrorists after they rebuffed an attack by ISIS militants on Deir Ezzor military airport.
On Tuesday, the terrorists also sustained yet another defeat near Deir Ezzor after tens of bomb-laden cars that they had sent toward the walls of Deir Ezzor airbase were destroyed by Syrian Army forces.
ISIS positions in al-Baqilia, al-Hosseinia, Huwaija Kate' and al-Janinah villages in the Northwestern parts of Deir Ezzor were also bombed on Tuesday by the Syrian and Russian fighter jets.
Earlier, a military source in Deir Ezzor said that the Syrian military forces regained control of several buildings after severe clashes with the ISIS at the gates of al-Sana'a district and destroyed a tunnel used by the terrorist group to transfer light weapons and forces, killing all the militants inside the tunnel.
The source added that tens of terrorists were killed during the operations in Deir Ezzor as the militants couldn’t prevent the army's advance in al-Sana'a despite the little number of the Syrian soldiers.
