Syrian Democratic Forces – a joint Arab-Kurdish force backed by the US – claims the colossal number of landmines have been discovered in fridges, fruit baskets and even kettles.
The Forces took back Manbij from ISIS on 12 August to scenes of jubilation from oppressed residents after two-and-a-half years of occupation.
But activists claim mines and booby traps have been left behind not only on known battle lines but civilian areas as well.
Manbij Activist Ahmed Mohammed said: “Mines were found inside a garlic and onion basket, a staircase, and even normal-looking rocks across the fields.
“Most of the mines are handmade, and the majority are landmines.
“Others are distributed throughout houses: in doors and entrances, refrigerators, cooking utensils and even teapots.
“They were even behind wall paintings and inside shops.”
A Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) spokesman said the tactic was meant to slow their progress and inflict maximum casualties.
Sherfan Darwish said: “ISIS has mined everything — refrigerators, house appliances, tea kettles, everything.”
Women stripped off their burkas following the city’s liberation in an act of defiance against cruel ISIS and their hardline interpretation of Islam.
But the victorious forces also revealed the brutality of the evil cult’s religious police.
The so-called “Hasba” whip women with chains if they wear makeup or smoke, shocking footage revealed, Express reported.
