During Sunday night's 100-meter semifinal, Usain Bolt got so far out ahead of his competition that he started looking around and smiling well before he crossed the finish line.

Getty Images photographer Cameron Spencer captured this incredible image that has been passed around the web and used for meme after meme after meme.

Although Bolt's time didn't break any records, his win makes him the first athlete to win three successive 100m titles

Usain Bolt claimed yet another slice of Olympic Games history with a stunning triumph in the men’s 100m sprint final on Monday (AEST).

The 29-year-old Jamaican started slowly but finished full of running to become the first man ever to triumph in the Games’ marquee event for the third time in a row, winning in 9.81 seconds.

He beat controversial American Justin Gatlin (9.89 seconds) for gold, while Canada’s Andre De Grasse (9.91 seconds) won bronze.

Cbssport asked Spencer what techniques he used to take such a perfect photo, and here's what he had to say:

Usain Bolt is an entertainer and he surprises me every time that he goes on the track. I've been shooting him for three Olympics and two World Championships and every time he simply loves entertaining the crowd.

When shooting the world's fastest man you always need to be on your toes and ready. Last night when he flew past me with perfect technique and his huge stride, he looked back and smiled; I only had a moment to capture this epic Olympic moment, but I was in the right place, ready.

I decided to take a risk and shoot a pan at a slow shutter speed, knowing he would coast past his competitors around the 70m mark. He makes it look easy, almost playing with his competitors. Bolt is so confident and such an elite athlete, shooting him is an amazing experience.

So while it may seem like luck (right place, right time), it takes years of experience and technique to be ready to capture an iconic moment that happens in the blink of an eye.

When great technique meets a great moment, we end up with unforgettable photos like this, cbssports reported.
