Iraqi forces secured the southern edge of the Islamic State (ISIS, ISIL, IS and Daesh) group's stronghold in Fallujah, on Sunday.
Lieutenant General Abdul-Wahab al-Saadi, the military commander of the Fallujah operation tolld Ap that the battle against ISIS was "progressing" and would "not stop until we get into the center of Fallujah".
The advance comes almost two weeks after Iraqi forces launched their offensive to retake the western city from the Islamic State group militants.
Also the deputy head of a Shiite militia group aligned with the Iraqi government said on Sunday that the group had completed its mission near Fallujah, Reuters reports.
Abu Mahdi al Muhandis said al Hashd al Shaabi fighters had achieved their goals in the liberation of Garma, Saqlawiya, and al Bushijil, near Fallujah, and were ready to help the Iraqi army liberate the city if necessary.
Iraqi forces launched their offensive to retake the western city of Fallujah from the Islamic State group militants almost two weeks ago.
