The number of people killed in a 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck northern Ecuador on Saturday has risen to 413, the country’s security coordination ministry said in a statement on Monday.

The authorities did not provide an update on the number of wounded, but the country’s president, Rafael Correa, said on Sunday that 2,068 injuries had been recorded.

The president visited affected areas in Manabi Province on Monday, saying the number of fatalities will increase as many people are trapped under rubble.
