Local residents and witnesses have said that in Violation of UN-brokered truce agreement that had taken effect in the war-torn impoverished Arab country early this week, Saudi warplanes have bombarded a number of areas in the Yemeni capital, Sana’a.

Local residents and witnesses said Saudi fighter jets on Thursday struck several targets in the Faj Attan district and some other areas across Sana’a on Thursday.

Muhammad Ali, a Sana’a resident, said that Saudi warplanes keep pounding Yemen despite the truce.

“I live in Attan. There were airstrikes at dawn this morning and they hit some targets in the area. Warplanes have been hovering overhead around here in Sana’a since the ceasefire took hold,” he said.

Separately, Saudi helicopters on Wednesday struck al-Houta, the capital of the southern Lahij Province, killing at least eight people. The aerial raid hit a government building, a stadium and two homes in the region.

Saudi fighter jets intensified their bombing campaign against various Yemeni cities on the weekend, launching airstrikes on dozens of civilian houses and properties.

Riyadh had earlier pledged in a statement to honor the ceasefire.

Yemen’s Houthi Ansarullah movement has accused Saudi Arabia and its mercenaries of constantly violating the truce agreement across the country. The Houthis on Monday recorded 39 violations of the truce by Saudi Arabia and its allies, including attacks in Ta’izz and the central province of Baida.

The Yemeni al-Masirah TV said on Tuesday that pro-Saudi militants have targeted numerous positions of the Houthis.

Meanwhile, Yemeni military sources said on Thursday that nearly three dozen pro-Saudi terrorists were killed in a series of violent clashes with Houthi Ansarullah fighters and allied army units near the Yemeni capital over the past three days.

Saudi Arabia has been waging a war on Yemen since late March 2015 in a bid to reinstate Yemen’s former President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi and undermine the Houthi movement, which took over state matters after Hadi resigned. Nearly 9,400 Yemenis, including 4,000 women and children, have lost their lives in the deadly military campaign.

Yemenis, in return, have been carrying out retaliatory attacks on the Saudi forces deployed in the country as well as targets inside Saudi Arabia.

Figures show around 9,500 people have been killed in the Saudi aggression against Yemen so far while hundreds of thousands have been displaced across the country; Press TV reported.
