Syria's province of Homs is prepared for parliamentary elections in the country.
Syria's western province of Homs has finished preparations for parliamentary elections in the country, scheduled for 13 April, the head of the judicial subcommittee, judge Gayas Rahim told Sputnik Tuesday.
"The province has completed its preparations for the parliamentary elections, which will begin at 7:00 a.m. [04:00 GMT] on Wednesday and last until 7:00 pm [16:00 GMT] the same day," Rahim said.
He noted that giving extra time to the voters was decided in case of high turnout during the elections.
A total of 837 ballot boxes have been transferred to the polling stations in the province and divided between 661 electoral districts, Rahim added.
There are 168 candidates from the province of Homs, who will compete for 23 seats in parliament, he added.
On February 22, Syrian President Bashar Assad issued a decree calling for parliamentary elections in the country on April 13. In late March, Assad told media in an interview that no major changes were expected in the country’s parliament after elections under current conditions.
The Wednesday parliamentary elections will be the second held in the country since the beginning of the civil war in 2011. The latest parliamentary elections were held in May 2012, with voter turnout exceeding 51 percent, which is equal to some five million people, according to Syria's electoral committee, Sputnik reported.
