Clashes between the army troops and the militants who used different types of light and heavy weaponry ended after the terrorists were pushed back from the region with scores of casualties.
Also, explosion of a mine near a military vehicle belonging to the ISIL killed and injured all those in the vehicle.
The Syrian army forces are also supported by the air force units which pounded the terrorists' sites in different parts of Homs, including al-Zafaranah, al-San al-Aswad, al-Amariya, Ayoun al-Hussain and al-Mokramiya regions on Thursday.
The Syrian Army troops continued to advance against the ISIL terrorists and pushed them back from at least four strategic heights Southeast of Homs province on Wednesday.
The ISIL militants sustained more defeats near the ancient Assyrian town of Quaryatayn and pulled forces back from four key heights in the region.
The ISIL withdrawal inflicted a heavy death toll on the terrorist group too.
The ISIL left behind its military equipment and fled the battlefield under the heavy fire of the Syrian army.
Earlier today, concentration centers of the ISIL and al-Nusra Front in the Northern and Southeastern parts of Homs province came under the heavy attacks of the Syrian Ground and Air Forces.
"In a joint mid-scale operation, the Syrian army and warplanes targeted the ISIL strongholds in Tuloul al-Soud, Mintar and Jabal al-Rmeileh in the Southeastern territories of Homs province, which not only left many terrorists dead or wounded, but destroyed their machinegun-equipped vehicles in large scale," the sources said.
"The army troops, meantime, hit the ISIL gathering centers near the villages of Rajm al-Qasr, Habra and al-Maqaleh near the ancient city of Palmyra (Tadmur), which claimed the lives of several Takfiri terrorists," they added.
"The al-Qaeda-affiliated Nusra Front's gatherings near the town of Talbiseh in the Northern part of Homs province were targeted by the Syrian army," the sources went on to say, FNA reported.
